The Lie We’ve Been Sold About Aging

Our culture celebrates youth like it’s the only time we matter.

But if you look closely, you’ll notice something:

Youth is rarely where purpose is found.

Purpose is built through:

• Raising families

• Building careers

• Surviving the hard seasons

• Learning who we are

• Strengthening our faith

• Collecting wisdom the world can’t take from us

We aren’t declining.

We’re ripening.

There is so much more inside us left to give.

My In-Between Story

After 35 years in corporate sales leadership, my career — the title I worked so hard for — ended.

I suddenly went from “important” to “I don’t know what’s next.”

My identity had been woven into productivity.

Into performance.

Into being needed by a company.

And then… stillness.

But God does His best work in the stillness.

I packed my bags and moved across the country to Portland, Oregon — to be close to my grandson. I rented a little cottage not knowing if it would be a short sabbatical or the start of a whole new life.

…and we knit it together to serve the world in a new way.

We’ve done the hard work.

Now we get to do the meaningful work.

A New Definition of Success

Success used to be titles.

And checking boxes.

And trying to impress people who weren’t even watching.

Not anymore.
