If You’re Not Living a Life You Love, What Are You Waiting For?

We all have that quiet voice inside us—the one that whispers about the life we could be living if we were brave enough to follow it. Sometimes, we ignore it because it feels impractical, risky, or just too big to consider. But what if that voice is actually guiding us to the life we were meant for?
I know this feeling well. A few years ago, I made a decision that changed everything.
The Moment of Decision
I was living in Florida, settled in a life I had built over the years. But something in me longed for more—not more material things, not more obligations, but more connection, more purpose, more life. My grandson was three years old at the time, and I felt a deep pull to be near him, to nurture our bond while he was still young.
The idea started as a whisper, but it wouldn’t go away. The thought of leaving behind my familiar life, my home, and even my marriage was daunting. But staying where I was and ignoring this calling felt even scarier.
Stepping Into the Unknown
I didn’t have a detailed plan. I didn’t know if this would be a temporary escape or a long-term shift. But I chose to trust that God had placed this desire in my heart for a reason.
I packed up and moved across the country to Portland, Oregon. I found an adorable little cottage close to my son and his family. It felt like the perfect retreat—a place to rest, reflect, and simply be.
The Magic of Saying Yes
For four months, that cottage became my oasis. I spent my days walking and exploring, reconnecting with friends, eating well, and soaking in every moment with my grandson. I remembered who I was outside of my past roles and responsibilities. I gave myself permission to rest, to breathe, and to listen to what my soul needed.
It was magical. It was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. And I will cherish that time forever.
Listening to God’s Nudges
Then, just as clearly as I had felt the call to go, I felt the call to return. I didn’t fully understand it, but I knew in my heart that God was guiding me. That experience taught me that when we trust Him, He will always lead us exactly where we need to be.
I came back to Florida with a new sense of clarity and purpose. I had stepped away from my life, not to escape it, but to step back into it on my terms.
What’s Calling You?
Maybe you’ve felt that same tug on your heart—whether it’s a move, a career shift, a passion project, or simply the desire to shake things up and live fully. Maybe you’ve been telling yourself, “Someday.”
But what if someday is now?
What if you allowed yourself to choose the people, positions, and places that truly feed your soul? What if you stopped living in should and stepped into can?
If you’re not living a life you love, what are you waiting for?
Take a moment. Close your eyes. Imagine the life that excites you—the one where you wake up with joy, energy, and purpose. Now ask yourself: What’s one step I can take toward that today?
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to listen—to that whisper inside you and to the God who placed it there. When you trust His nudges, you’ll be amazed at where He leads you.
So go. Take the first step. Your yes is waiting.
